The Department of \u201cNational and Regional Security\u201d offers master\u2019s programs aimed at training specialists in defense, security, and risk management. The Department of \u201cNational and Regional Security\u201d offers a Master\u2019s program in \u201cNational and Global Security\u201d with a duration of 2 semesters. The program is available both through state-funded places and paid enrollment for students who have completed a Bachelor\u2019s degree (graduates with a Master\u2019s degree are also eligible to apply) from any field of higher education. The Master\u2019s program is structured in accordance with the national requirements for the educational and qualification degree \u201cMaster.\u201d<\/p>

The rapidly changing conditions and security threats at the national, regional, and global levels, along with the associated processes, necessitate their study, while simultaneously highlighting the need to train professionals capable of managing them effectively. The Master\u2019s program \u201cNational and Global Security,\u201d as the successor to the program \u201cEconomics of Defense and Security,\u201d is the flagship program of the Department of \u201cNational and Regional Security\u201d and attracts significant interest among prospective Master\u2019s students.<\/p>

The objective<\/strong>\u00a0of the Master\u2019s program \u201cNational and Global Security\u201d is to train highly qualified managerial personnel at middle and senior management levels to meet the needs of public and private organizations in the fields of security and defense, including at the international level.<\/p>

The objectives of the Master\u2019s program include:<\/p>

  • - Training highly qualified managerial personnel at middle and senior management levels for the needs of the security and defense sector;<\/li>
  • - Expanding and deepening the knowledge and skills of students who have completed a Bachelor\u2019s degree in field 3.8 \u201cEconomics\u201d at the University of National and World Economy;<\/li>
  • - Encouraging activities that contribute to peace and security at the national and international levels;<\/li>
  • - Introducing and applying modern teaching methods, including the use of state-of-the-art technological tools and instructional methodologies;<\/li>
  • - Involving students in the research activities of the department;<\/li>
  • - Supporting the professional development of students by organizing additional internships in organizations operating in the field of defense and security, including government institutions, private companies, and non-governmental organizations.<\/li><\/ul>

    The Master\u2019s program includes instruction in current subjects related to the scope and content of the \u201cNational and Global Security\u201d specialization. The curriculum includes the following courses: \u201cPublic Policy Analysis in Defense and Security,\u201d \u201cEuropean Security Architecture,\u201d \u201cEconomics of Defense and Security,\u201d \u201cCybersecurity,\u201d \u201cRefugees and Forced Migration,\u201d \u201cOperations in Support of International Peace and Security,\u201d \u201cCrisis Management and Sustainable Development,\u201d \u201cRegional Approaches to Global Security,\u201d \u201cAllied Planning and Allocation of Security Expenditures,\u201d and others.<\/p>

    The training in this specialization includes both off-site instruction in business or administrative environments and the use of modern educational technologies, including electronic platforms.<\/p>

    The course of study concludes with the development of a master\u2019s thesis, the topic of which is aligned with the individual interests of the students and takes into account their current or future professional development.<\/p>

    The training in the \u201cNational and Global Security\u201d program provides the acquisition of the following knowledge, skills, and competencies:<\/p>

    • - A broad range of theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of national and global security, including its economic aspects, as well as the role of the economy in promoting peace at the national, regional, and global levels;<\/li>
    • - The acquisition of in-depth and critical knowledge on issues related to defense and security;<\/li>
    • - Knowledge, understanding, and articulation of theories, concepts, principles, and patterns in the field of international peace and security;<\/li>
    • - Demonstrating critical thinking in understanding key processes in the field of international peace and security;<\/li>
    • - Independently gathering, analyzing, and using in-depth specialized information on events and processes relevant to defense and security;<\/li>
    • - Familiarity with, command of, and application of an extensive conceptual framework;<\/li>
    • - Developing and applying innovative approaches;<\/li>

It contributes to expanding and deepening the knowledge and skills of those working in the sector, as well as individuals who have completed a Bachelor\u2019s degree in various academic fields.<\/p>

The main areas of focus within the program are:<\/p>

  • - the key aspects of cybersecurity management, as well as the methods, tools, and procedures used to ensure security in cyberspace;<\/li>
  • - management systems, information and communication systems related to security, and the protection of critical information infrastructure;<\/li>
  • - the management of IT projects in both the public and private sectors;<\/li>
  • - the development of academic skills for conducting comprehensive analyses, as well as the abilities and knowledge required to handle information of various types and levels of complexity and to ensure its protection.<\/li><\/ul>

The Department of \"National and Regional Security\" is the leading department for the International Master\u2019s Program *Economics of Defence and Security* with a specialization in \"Nuclear Security\", taught in English. The program is the result of an agreement signed between UNWE and the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) for cooperation in the field of education and research in July 2014.
UNWE has been admitted as a member of the International Nuclear Security Education Network (INSEN), with the Department of \u201cNational and Regional Security\u201d (DNRS) designated as the university\u2019s primary representative in the network. INSEN comprises over 45 countries and more than 120 organizations, including universities, research centers, non-governmental organizations, and others.<\/p>

In June 2017, the first group of students graduated from this program. Students from seven countries received their diplomas from the Minister of Energy, Ms. Temenuzhka Petkova. Since then, dozens of students from Bulgaria and other countries\u2014among them Jordan, Lebanon, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Mauritania, Iran, South Africa, Vietnam, Yemen, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and others\u2014have successfully completed the program.<\/p>

The Master\u2019s program \u201cDefense and Security Economics\u201d with a specialization in \u201cNuclear Security\u201d is a multidisciplinary training program designed in accordance with the IAEA requirements for developing master\u2019s programs, as outlined in document number 12 of the so-called \u201cNuclear Security Series\u201d (NSS 12).<\/p>

The Master\u2019s program aims to prepare highly qualified managerial personnel for the needs of the nuclear energy sector, related industries, and administrative bodies responsible for regulating the use of nuclear materials.<\/p>

All lectures, exercises, and coursework are conducted exclusively in English, providing students with a unique opportunity to strengthen and enhance their language skills while learning and applying the specialized terminology of nuclear security. Students gain access to extensive informational resources provided by an international team of instructors, as well as opportunities to engage with representatives from governmental bodies and industry stakeholders in the field.<\/p>

The curriculum emphasizes high-quality training based on modern teaching methods, the professionalism of the lecturers, the participation of guest speakers, and the use of contemporary information technologies.<\/p>

Graduates of the program earn a degree in Economics with a specialization in accreditation and conformity assessment, which enables them to pursue career opportunities across all sectors of the economy and management. The specialized knowledge and skills they acquire in the fields of accreditation and compliance assessment demonstrate strong competencies and provide an excellent foundation for a successful career in sectors and organizations such as:
\u2022 specialized accreditation and inspection bodies;
\u2022 accreditation, assessment, and control management;
\u2022 quality management authorities;
\u2022 the development of organizational structures and management systems;
