Application Information

The Master’s Programme in Nuclear Security at the University of National and World Economy (UNWE) is open to applicants from Bulgaria, the European Union, and other countries. On this page you will find information about tuition fees, required documents, and the steps for applying to the programme.

For Bulgarian and European Union Citizens

The Master’s Programme in Nuclear Security has a duration of 3 semesters.

Diploma Legalization

The procedure depends on whether the country where the diploma was issued is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention.

Applicants from Countries Party to the Hague Apostille Convention

  1. Bachelor’s Degree Diploma
  2. Academic Transcript
  3. Apostille issued by the competent authority
  4. Official translation into Bulgarian

Applicants from Countries Not Party to the Hague Apostille Convention

The documents must undergo full diplomatic legalization, which includes:

    1. Certification by the Ministry of Education (or another competent authority) in the issuing country

    2. Certification by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the issuing country

    3. Legalization by a Bulgarian Embassy or Consulate

    4. Official translation into Bulgarian

Diploma Recognition

After legalization and translation, the documents must be submitted to:

The National Centre for Information and Documentation (NACID)

This is a mandatory procedure for the official recognition of the diploma before enrollment at the University of National and World Economy (UNWE).

1. Preparation of Documents

Applicants must prepare the required documents for application, including:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree Diploma
  2. Academic Transcript
  3. English Language Certificate (minimum B2 level)
  4. Completed UNWE Application Form

The documents must be submitted to the University of National and World Economy (UNWE) in accordance with the announced application deadlines.

After submission, the university reviews the application and informs the candidate of the admission decision.

After approval, the candidate completes the enrollment in the Master’s programme and pays the tuition fee for the first semester.

Bulgarian and EU students are not required to obtain a visa or undergo diploma legalization procedures, unlike applicants from countries outside the European Union.

2. Application Process for Non-EU Students

1. Preparation of Documents

The applicant must prepare:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree Diploma
  2. Academic Transcript
  3. Medical Certificate.
  4. English Language Certificate (minimum B2 level)
  5. Completed UNWE Application Forms

All academic documents must be legalized and translated into Bulgarian.

The translation must be carried out by a certified translation agency.

The documents must be sent in original hard copy to UNWE (by post, courier, or through an authorized agency).

After receiving the documents, UNWE forwards them to NACID for academic recognition.

The procedure usually takes approximately 4–6 weeks.

After successful recognition, the university issues a Final Admission Letter and enrollment confirmation.

With these documents, the applicant submits a Visa D application at the Bulgarian Embassy.

The procedure usually takes approximately 1 month.

After arriving in Bulgaria, the student completes the official enrollment at UNWE and begins the programme at the start of the academic year (October).

The tuition fee for non-EU students is:

2500 EUR per semester
7500 EUR total for the programme

If necessary, UNWE can issue an invoice to the IAEA or the respective funding institution.

UNWE offers student dormitories.

Cost: 80–100 EUR per month

Issuance of Application Documents

UNWE may issue the following documents:

  1. Preliminary Acceptance Certificate – for funding or visa application purposes
  2. Certificate of Admission – issued after the applicant has been approved for admission
